Blanks Septic LLC

This is a basic diagram of a traditonal septic tank.  Your tank may vary in different applications.  Sewage enters from the inlet.  Travels down the inlet baffle and enters the septic tank.  As you can see there are three layers in a tank:  Scum layer, Wastewater, and Sludge.  Once sewage enters it will rise or sink.  when it rises it become the Scum layer and bacteria begins to digest,  As it digest it sinks through the wastewater and becomes Sludge.  When the water that just entered the tank offsets the water balance it flows up through the outlet baffle and enters the drainfield.  When the sludge layers gets too high from not servicing it will force its way out through the outlet and clog  your lines.   If this happens it can destroy your system.  Its also important to check both baffles to make sure that they are intact and operational.  When your tank is opened and everything is normal you should see an 8-10 inch space from the Scum layer and the top of the tank.  If its higher than this it indicates a problem with your drainfield.
